John Rex Smith

John "Rex" Smith, age 87, a lifelong resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away Saturday, February 12, 2011, at Hedrick Medical Center. Rex was born Chillicothe, Missouri, on February 4, 1924, the son of John Levi and Bertha (Volk) Smith. He attended Chillicothe High School. John worked as a farmer all of his life on the farm where he was raised. On December 10, 1952, he married Kyra Rosella Locke. She survives of the home. He was a member of Zion Baptist Church and he loved to hunt and fish. He is also survived by two sons, Michael Smith and wife Kathy of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Daniel Ewing and wife Shannon of Warrensburg, Missouri; one brother, William L. Smith of Chillicothe, Missouri; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Rachael Smith, Helen Wiegand and Dolly Bowles; and one daughter, Marsha Haynes Howe. Funeral services will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. A family visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri. Friends may call Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Tuesday, February 15, 2011, from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Interment will be held in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Chillicothe, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wheeling Cemetery or Brassfield Cemetery and may be left at the funeral home or may be mailed to the Lindley Funeral Home, P.O.
