John William "Jay" Pitts

John William Pitts
John William (Jay) Pitts, age 86, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2020, at Cameron Regional Medical Center, Cameron Missouri.
Jay was born the son of John Henry Pitts and Cecile William (Graham) Pitts on April 7, 1933, in Carrollton Missouri. He was a graduate of Braymer High School class of 1951. He attended William Jewell College for 2 years, and he was a graduate of Dallas Institute of Funeral Service in 1957. Jay was a veteran of the United States Navy during the Korean War, and served in Alameda, California, and San Diego, California. He was united in marriage to Helen Louise Clevenger on June 12, 1954, in Santa Clara, California. He was a licensed mortician and owned Pitts Funeral Homes until 1984 with Helen. He was a member of the Braymer Methodist Church, Braymer, Missouri. He was also a member of the Polo Masonic Lodge #232, Polo, Missouri, and the Braymer American Legion Tweedie-Murray Post #117. Jay and Helen were the Grand Marshals of the Braymer Homecoming Parade in 2008, and loved attending Braymer Homecoming and the Braymer Fair. Jay was an avid Aviator, having flown in the Navy and later as a licensed private pilot.
Survivors include two sons, John Scott Pitts and Siendie of Kalama, Washington, and Steve Pitts and Rayne of Braymer, Missouri; three grandchildren, Ryanne Pitts and Cory of Vancouver, Washington, Lauren Berntsen of Oslo, Norway, and Ray-Lynn Young of Rayville, Missouri; three great grandchildren; one sister, Dora Jane Barron of Braymer, Missouri; nine nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Helen; one sister, Kathryn Barnes; and two nephews, Pat Barnes and Brandon Clevenger.
A memorial service will be held at the Braymer Methodist Church, Braymer, Missouri, on Sunday, March 15, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. There is no scheduled visitation. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
