John Arthur Lamp Sr.

John Arthur Lamp Sr. John Arthur Lamp, age 68, a resident of Wheeling, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, February 07, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his family. John was born the son of William Arthur and Marie (Sparks) Lamp on April 25, 1947, in Chillicothe, Missouri. He served in the United States Army from 1966 until 1968 during the Vietnam War. He was united in marriage to Yvonne Tirrell on June 7, 1969, in Chillicothe, Missouri. She survives of the home. John was a member of Souls Harbor Church of God. He worked for the Missouri Department of Corrections for 25 years until his retirement in 1996. After retirement John worked with Horton Appliances for over 20 years. He could always be found tinkering in his garage and working on lawn mowers, and was always there to lend a helping hand to whomever needed it. John was an honest, hardworking, and loving man. His greatest accomplishment was his family. He had unconditional love for his wife Yvonne, his sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Survivors include wife Yvonne of the home; two sons, John Lamp of Utica, Missouri, and Shawn Lamp and wife Jalaine of Chillicothe, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Emmalee Oliver and husband Bradly, Kelsie Cooper and husband Andrew, Cody Lamp, Michael Lamp, Krissy Lamp, Garrett Zelmer, Maddie Lamp, and Olivia Lamp; six great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Oliver, Mya Oliver, Lillian Oliver, Braydon Kimbrough, Jocelyn Cooper, and Emerson Lamp; father William Lamp of Chillicothe, Missouri; two brothers, Dannie Lamp of Chillicothe, Missouri, and Joey Lamp of Princeton, Missouri; and five sisters, Ruby Bryson and Joe of Hale, Missouri, Judy Lamp of Chillicothe, Missouri, Julie Hamilton of Hamilton, Illinois, Allyson Weber of Worcester, Massachusetts, and Gaylen Paden of Norfold, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his mother Marie Lamp; two great-grandsons Isaiah and Brenden Oliver; and one sister Janet Shatto. Funeral services will be held at the Souls Harbor Church of God, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Thursday, February 11, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. There will be a family visitation at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Wednesday, February 10, 2016, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 10, 2016, from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Wheeling Cemetery, Wheeling, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Louis Shriners Hospital for Children and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
