John P. Evans

John P. Evans John P. Evans, age 87, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, June 21, 2012, at Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe, Missouri. John was born on September 19, 1924, in Carroll County, Missouri, the son of Alfred and Lena (Lance) Evans. He was a 1941 graduate of Carrollton High School. He was united in marriage to Melvalene (Beaman) Hicklin on June 8, 1960, in Linneus, Missouri. She survives of the home. He served in the United States Army as a Sergeant for the 565th Quartermaster Corp Railhead Company. He served in the European and South Pacific Theater during World War II. John was the owner/operator of Evans Heating and Cooling. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Chillicothe, where he served as a Trustee, the Vern R. Glick American Legion Post No. 25, the VFW Roy Burkett Post No. 858 Flag Crew, Kiwanis Club, Grand River Historical Society, served as a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 124 for ten years, and was a bus driver for the Chillicothe R-II School District. John enjoyed traveling and gardening. Survivors include his wife, Melvalene of the home; one son, Paul Evans and wife Pam of Kansas City, Missouri; two daughters, Marilyn (Evans) Hutchins and husband Jonathan of Kansas City, Missouri, Marlene (Evans) DeVilbiss and husband Rex of Lee's Summit, Missouri; two stepsons, Mike Hicklin and wife Lynda of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Dennis Hicklin and wife Pam of Boonville, Missouri; one sister, Virginia Burton of Hale, Missouri; thirteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, George Evans; five brothers; and three sisters. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 25, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, Chillicothe, Missouri. There will be a family visitation on Monday one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, Chillicothe. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri on Sunday, June 24, 2012 from 12 noon until 9:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Edgewood Cemetery, Chillicothe, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
