Joan Gibson
Joan Gibson, age 97, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at Morningside Center, Chillicothe, Missouri.
Joan was born the daughter of Louis Monte Kilburn and Sylvia (Pencil) Kilburn Brown on May 23, 1924, in Chillicothe, Missouri. Joan attended St. Joseph's Academy, Chillicothe, Missouri, and later moved with her family to Lincoln, Nebraska, in 1936. She graduated from Havelock High School in Lincoln, Nebraska. Joan then moved to Wichita, Kansas, and was employed at Woolf Brothers Department Store in the office, and Hinkle Department Store as a buyer in the Milinery and sales department. Joan was united in marriage to Floyd E. Gibson, Sr., in April 2, 1951, and lived near Chillicothe, Missouri. He preceded her in death on October 10, 1987. They moved to Braymer, Missouri, in 1958, and years later moved to Stet, Missouri, where they resided on a farm until they retired. Joan was a former member of St. Margaret Mary's Church in Braymer, and was later a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Norborne, Missouri. She served on the Council of Catholic Women and Altar Society. Joan was a member of Stet Homemakers Club, and the Stet Card Club. She served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She was a stay at home mother, and was very dedicated to raising her children and being involved in their school activities. Joan enjoyed gardening, and freezing and canning fruits and vegetables. She was an excellent cook, and was well known for her pie baking.
Survivors include two daughters, Diane Bonderer of Chillicothe, Missouri, and Nancy Baker and husband Oren of Sedalia, Missouri; one daughter-in-law, Anita Gibson of Norborne, Missouri; eleven grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Lollar of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, Marsha Clegg of Denver, Colorado; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Floyd; one son, Floyd Eugene Gibson, Jr.; one son-in-law, Mike Bonderer; step-father, Herb Brown; three brothers, Louis and LeRoy Kilburn, and Herbert (Bud) Brown; and three sisters, Bernice Dawkins, Marjorie Luetticke, and Martha Elliott.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Columban Catholic Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. A Parish Rosary will precede the service. There is no scheduled visitation. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Monday, June 14, 2021, from 12 noon until 7:00 p.m. Burial will be held at St. Columban Catholic Cemetery, Chillicothe, Missouri.
