Janice Marie Kissick

June 4, 1960 — July 12, 2017

JANICE MARIE KISSICK Janice Marie Kissick, age 57, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Livingston Manor Care Center, Chillicothe, Missouri.   Janice was born the daughter of Walter and Carmelina (Della'mura) Stankiewicz on June 4, 1960, in New Haven, Connecticut. She spent her childhood in this area and in 1978, she graduated from Hamden High School, Hamden, Connecticut. In 1980, Janice joined the United States Navy and was there until 1984. When asked years later what her favorite job had been, she immediately responded, "My time in the Navy."   After moving to Chillicothe, Missouri, in 2012 from St. Petersburg, Florida, she became a member of the St. Columban's Catholic Church. Janice was born into a Catholic family and the church was a consistent strength and comfort to her all of her life.   As well, during this time, she became employed at Community Options as the receptionist. Her role there soon became much more with her incredible organizational skills, her wide base of knowledge and her many interesting stories told in her unforgettable and delightful East Coast accent. A void has, no doubt, been left in the Community Options office.       Janice was an advent reader, a strawberry collector, and a loyal friend. She was proud of her Italian heritage and has left some of her Italian recipes for family and friends to enjoy. She loved the ocean and had a jar of seashells and sand from the East Coast in her room until she left. As an international face-booker, she communicated with friends from all over the world.   Janice's most prized persons in her life include her sons who survive her; Jerry L. Kissick, Jr. and his significant other, Samantha Fostek, and John Kissick, all of Chillicothe, Missouri. Her Mother-love for Jerry and John was consistently faithful and always tangible. The other Light of her Life was her granddaughter, Journey Lynn Kissick, of Caldwell, Idaho. Another grandchild is due to be born this month, Jacob William Kissick, and Janice dreamed of being able to hold that child in her arms. She will be waiting. Other survivors include a brother, John D. Stankiewicz of New Haven, Connecticut, and three sisters, Camella Stankiewicz, Theresa Stankiewicz and Susan Freyeisen, all of Hamden, Connecticut. Also survives is Janice's faithful companion, her white cat, Jasper, who now resides with her son, John. She was preceded in death by her parents.   A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Janice Kissick Memorial Fund and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri, 64601. Online condolences may be made at www.lindleyfuneralhomes.com .   Arrangements are under the direction of Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri.   Meanwhile, those who knew and loved this strong-willed, opinionated and delightful woman, send prayers up for the family, say a rosary, listen to Norman Greenbaum's song, "Spirit in the Sky", smile when you see the peace symbol, or share stories with others of your time with her.
