James Edward Barton

James Edward Barton James Edward Barton, age 81, a resident of Liberty, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at his residence. James was born the son of Platt George and Ruby Jewell (McLaughlin) Barton on October 21, 1933, in Harris, Missouri. He was a 1951 graduate of Newtown Harris High School. He served in the United States Navy from 1955 until 1957. James was united in marriage to Deloris Joan Swigart on July 27, 1958, in Princeton, Missouri. She survives of the home. James worked as a meat cutter for 38 years in Trenton, Missouri, Perry, Iowa, and Brookfield, Missouri. He then moved to Chillicothe and worked at Hy-Vee Food Store for 17 years. He enjoyed playing golf and loved playing games. James did not know a stranger. He was a member of the Highview Baptist Church, Chillicothe, Missouri. Survivors include his wife, Joan of the home; two sons, Jeffrey Barton and wife Jennifer of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, and Randall Barton and wife Chris of Perry, Iowa; one daughter, Tammy Barton and partner, Sheri Woxland of Liberty, Missouri; three grandchildren, Sarah Anne Barton and Kyle and Kevin Barton; four great grandchildren, Jayden, Orion, Odin and Aiden; one brother, George Barton and wife Wilma of Independence, Missouri; stepbrother, Jerry McLinn and wife Karen of Chillicothe, Missouri; and two stepsisters, Judy and JessAnn. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Gregory Lee Barton; and two brothers, Doyle Barton and Caroll Barton. Funeral services will be held at the Highview Baptist Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, May 22, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. A scheduled family visitation will be held at the Highview Baptist Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, May 22, 2015, one hour prior to the service from 12 noon until 1:00 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Thursday, May 21, 2015, from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Harris Cemetery, Harris, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the James Barton Memorial Fund and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
