James Arthur Barnes

James Arthur Barnes James Arthur Barnes, age 87, a resident of Hale, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2017, at Livingston Manor Care Center, Chillicothe, Missouri. James was born the son of Lee Roy and Ruby L. (Maddock) Barnes on February 2, 1930, in Hale, Missouri. He was a 1948 graduate of Hale High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1952 until 1954, during the Korean War. He also served in the United States Marine Corps 3rd Division Band. James taught band at Hale High School. He worked at the Hale Bowling Alley and Pool Hall from 1948 until 1952. He then worked as a Mechanic for Hales Service Station from 1954 until 1989. He also worked for Rogers MFA. James was a member of the Hurricane Baptist Church, Hale, Missouri. He was also a member of the Hale Lions Club, and VFW Post 3464 of Hale, serving as post commander 5 times. James was an avid sports fan of the Royals, Chiefs, and Mizzou. He was an amateur baseball player in Hale and Sumner. He was a trumpet player in a 5 piece band performing in Kansas City, St. Louis, and Ozark, Missouri, as well as Iowa. He played pool at a competition level. James played taps at the Hale Cemetery Memorial Day Program from the age of 12 until 71. He loved hunting and fishing at the Grand River with his dad and being outdoors. Survivors include three nieces, Lynda Oden of Richmond, Missouri, Anita Barnes-Fox of St. Louis, Missouri, and Laura Barnes Morrison of Texas; and several other nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brother, Gerald, Roy I., Archie M., and Paul W. Barnes; three sisters, Margie H. White, Peggy Grace Barnes, and Gwendolyn A. Winters; and one niece, Pat Rietz. Funeral services will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Hale, Missouri, on Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Hale, Missouri, on Tuesday, November 14, 2017, one hour prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Hale, Missouri, on Monday, November 13, 2017, from 12 noon until 6:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Hale Cemetery, Hale, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Post 3464 of Hale and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
