Hilda Jean Bowes was born to Floyd J. and Nellie M (McDowell) Bowes on November 18, 1929. She joined a brother Francis and sister Dorothy. Hilda graduated Avalon High School in 1947, attended a summer course at Northwest Missouri State College to become a country school teacher. She taught 1 year of country school, marrying Eugene C. Broyles on December 24, 1948. They rented several farms before buying a farm 3 1/2 miles northeast of Hale and spent their lives there. They raised six children on the farm, Karl Eugene (Vicki), Nancy Lee (Ken) McClarnon, Kelvin Paul Broyles, Frank Jay (Barbara) Broyles, Lisabeth Ann (Larry) Spainhour, Marilyn Kay (Nick) Gorzovalitis.
She is survived by her six children and their spouses, 16 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and 3 more great-great grandchildren on the way. She was a wonderful Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Great-Great Grandmother and a loving person with a positive outlook at all times. She and Eugene were married 56 years when he passed in 2005. She lived the life she wanted with Gene and her children and wouldn't have changed a thing. A life well lived. She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene, her parents, brother Francis, sister-in-law Doris Bowes, sister Dorothy and brother-in-law Ralph Bingham, brother-in-law Willard Broyles, father-in-law William Broyles, mother-in-law Oakie Broyles and grandparents-in-law Frank and Rosa Colliver.
A Memorial service will be held Friday, May 9, 2025 at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri at 11:00 a.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, May 9, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Private Family Inurnment will be held at Fairland Cemetery, Bedford, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fairland Cemetery and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
