Helen "Louise" Summers, age 86, formerly of Hale, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2011, in Tonganoxie, Kansas. Louise was born in Tina, Missouri, on May 23, 1924, the daughter of Samuel and Sylvia (Lightle) Sewell. On August 20, 1943, she was united in marriage to John Summers in Chillicothe, Missouri. Louise was a homemaker but also worked as a clerk at the post office, as a cashier at the Honey House in Sumner, Missouri, at the Hale Locker and for Lindley Funeral Home. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxillary and the Hale Baptist Church. She was an avid quilter and enjoyed piecing together beautiful quilts. She is survived by her husband John Summers of Tonganoxie, Kansas; son Sam Summers and wife Patty of Bonner Springs, Kansas; grandson Kyle Summers of Lawrence, Kansas; brother Eugene Sewell of Hale, Missouri; sister Mary Ellen Wohlgemuth of Chillicothe, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Carl Sewell, Virgil Sewell, and Herbert Sewell; and an infant sister. Funeral services will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Hale, Missouri, on Friday, March 11, 2011, at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior, from 12:30 p.m. until service time. Friends may call Lindley Funeral Home, Hale, Missouri, on Thursday, March 10, from 12:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Burial will be held in Hale Memorial Gardens, Hale, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to Hale Baptist Church and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, PO Box 47, Chillicothe, MO 64601.
