Helen Lea Shriver Helen Lea Shriver, daughter of Carl and Bertha Ramsey was born on May 15, 1916 in Mercer County Missouri. She passed away at age 98 on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 in Wise, Virginia. Her four brothers, Rolland Ramsey, John Ramsey, Norris Ramsey, and Frank Ramsey all preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister Mary Carrier of El Paso, Texas. Helen was married to Jean Bruner February 27, 1934 until his death in 1970. She is survived by their two children Larry Bruner (wife Nellie) of Mercer, Missouri and Carolyn Ann Duesing of Wise, Virginia. She is also survived by four grand children: Kim Bruner, Ozark, Missouri; Jaci Bruner Rockhold, San Antonio, Texas; Phillip Bruner (wife Sara), Savannah, Missouri; and Chris Duesing (wife, Risa), Chicago, Illinois. Surviving great grand children include Jacob Rockhold (wife Sally), Josh Rockhold, Keegan Holloway, Maddie Bruner and Ella Bruner. Other surviving, close and loving nieces include Jo Ann Council (husband Mike) of Chillicothe, Missouri; Ruth Nell Powers (husband Louie), Houston, Texas; Linda Rae Hague (husband Jack), Mercer, Missouri; Lee Ann Moore (husband Clell), Allerton, Iowa; and Ginny Niemeyer (husband Dave) Mercer, Missouri; Kay Walters (husband Jim), Orlando, Florida; a sister-in-law, Virginia Bruner, Princeton, Missouri; a nephew Bud Bruner (wife Jackie), Prairie Home, Missouri; a nephew Fred Ramsey (wife, Sue), Houston, Texas and many other nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Helen married Dale Shriver in 1975. Dale passed away in 1981. Helen continued to live on their farm south of Princeton, Missouri until 2005. She moved from Missouri to Virginia in 2007 to live near her daughter. Helen was an extraordinary gardener whose love of beautiful flowers was rivaled only by her love of embroidering quilt blocks and writing poetry. She had written poetry but was never published until she moved to Virginia. Her poetry was published several times in the University of Virginia's College at Wise literary journal the Jimson Weed. As their oldest ever contributor she was invited to read her poetry at the College's Literary Coffee Night. Helen Shriver was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend who will be long remembered, cherished and missed by those who loved her dearly. Graveside services are scheduled for Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 11:00am at the Princeton Cemetery in Princeton, Missouri on Highway 65 just north of town.
