“I was born in Trenton, MO, on May 8, 1930, to Letha Fay Mackley Williams and Norman Williams. When I was 1 year old, we moved to Chillicothe, MO. I had two brothers, one older and one younger. When I was 3 years old, my mother passed away and I went to live with my Grandma and Grandpa Mackley. They had already raised 11 children. I was number 12. My 2 brothers went to live with cousins in California. I graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1948. I was married to Ernest Lee Oakes in 1953. We had one daughter, Theresa Fay Oakes. My husband passed away August 3, 2000. We had 47 wonderful years together. My beautiful daughter passed away December 1, 2020.
I was employed at several places in my lifetime. I worked at Kolbohn Bakery for 10 years, worked at KU KU for several years in the bakery dept. and for several years at HyVee in the bakery. I worked at Francine’s Pastry Parlor for over 20 years. I retired from there in December of 2017. I loved working for Francine and Dwaine--they are wonderful friends. My two brothers have passed away: Richard Lee Williams & Eugene K. Williams.
Survived by several nieces & nephews, cousins & friends. I love them all, they are all special to me. Two cousins are extra special to me. Jolita Ward is like a daughter to me. Douglas Denton is like a son.
My grandparents were special, raised me from age 3 and treated me like their own. Susan Angelita Mackley, Grandmother and Claud Edward Mackley, Grandfather.”
----- Helen Jaunita Williams Oakes.
