Helen Todd Gillespie McBride, age 99, of Bella Vista, Arkansas, passed away on August 15, 2024 at Advent Health Hospital, Shawnee, Kansas.
Helen was born in Bridgeport, Missouri, at the farm home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Joyce on July 8, 1925. After her birth, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.C. Gillespie took her home to Kansas City, Missouri, where she lived and went to school. She was united in marriage to Robert E. McBride on March 18, 1944. They enjoyed 72 years together. Robert E. died on November 7, 2016.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents; one brother, Jackson C. Gillespie; one son, Patrick McBride; and great grandson, Levi Terrell. Survivors include three sons, Mike (Janene) McBride, Tim McBride and Daniel (Nancy) McBride; three grandchildren, Michelle (Stacy) Briggs, Jennifer (Shawn) McLean and Mason (Gladys) McBride; five great grandchildren, Trenton Piel, Kelly Terrell, Julie Terrell, Louis Terrell and Jacob Cleveland; three great-great grandchildren, Allison Curtis, Bryer Curtis and Jake Romesburg; and one niece, Sandra Kay Gillespie.
The family moved to Chillicothe, Missouri in 1951, where they lived until their move to Bella Vista, Arkansas in 1988. When living in Chillicothe, she was an active member of the United Methodist Church, where she belonged to U.M. Women, and sang in the choir. She was a Sunday school teacher, a superintendent of the church school, and a member of the Children’s Division of the Missouri West Conference. She belonged to the Chillicothe Cultural Club and was a member of the P.E.O Sisterhood, Chapter T.
They moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas in 1988, and became members of the United Methodist Church, of Bella Vista. She was a member of the church choir early on, and a member of the Bella Vista Women’s chorus. She was given a “Certificate of Recognition” as a fifty year member of P.E.O. in 2019. She was a member of Chapter CX in Bella Vista, and was instated in Chapter T in Chillicothe, Missouri in 1969. Helen and Bob were members of the Bella Vista Bike Club and took many trips with them. The best of times were spent with our family, wherever they were.
A Memorial service will be held at United Methodist Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at United Methodist Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will be held at Edgewood Cemetery, Chillicothe, Missouri.
