Helen Colleen (Keller) Burns Helen Colleen (Keller) Burns, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Golden Age Nursing Home, Braymer, Missouri. She was 96 years of age. Helen was born November 8, 1917 near Braymer, Missouri. She was the daughter of Sidney and Verna Mae Keller of Braymer. Helen married Russell "Bud" Burns on February 17, 1939. Helen and Russell lived on a farm in Stet, Missouri and had two sons Norman and Kenneth Burns. Helen graduated from Braymer High School and then attended college in Warrensburg, MO. After receiving her teaching certificate, she taught in many local one-room schools south of Braymer. She finally worked the rest of her career at the Stet school where she retired in 1992. Helen was a member of the Wesley Chapel Methodist Church and later the New Hope Methodist Church. Helen loved spending time outdoors in the country maintaining her garden and flowers. She also enjoyed crocheting, working on family history, and visiting with family and friends. Helen especially loved to travel. She had the opportunity to visit 46 states. Helen was a loving mother, grandmother and a friend to all and touched many lives. Helen always did things her way. Helen is survived by her two sons Norman and wife Martha Burns of Braymer and Kenneth Burns of Stet. Six grandchildren: Suzann Clevenger and husband Bobby of Braymer, Nancy Maasdam and husband David of Tina, Rusty Burns and wife Heather of Bosworth, Scott Burns of Braymer, David Burns of Stet and John Burns of Stet. Helen had eight great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. One sister-in-law Betty Burns of St. Joe and several nieces and nephews. Her husband Russell "Bud" Burns, three brother-in-laws and one sister-in-law as well as her parents preceded Helen in death. Funeral services will be held at the New Hope Methodist Church, Stet, Missouri, on Saturday, February 8, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. A scheduled family visitation will be held at the Lindley Pitts Funeral Home, Braymer, Missouri, on Friday, February 7, 2014, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Pitts Funeral Home, Braymer, Missouri, on Friday, February 7, 2014, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be held at the Wakenda Cemetery in rural Hardin, Missouri.
