Hazel Marie Doss, age 89, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at NorthCare Hospice House, North Kansas City, Missouri.
Hazel was born the daughter of Vahl and Oweda (Harvey) Clawson on December 11, 1929, in Laclede, Missouri. She was a 1947 graduate of Brookfield High School. After high school, Hazel taught at a country school outside of Chillicothe for one year. She was united in marriage to James Blanton (J.B.) Doss on August 12, 1950, in Chillicothe, Missouri. He preceded her in death on April 27, 1995. Hazel worked for Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator for 10 years. In 1977, she was appointed as woman deputy secretary for the Livingston County Sherriff's Department, working there until her retirement. Hazel then worked in the office at Midwest Quality Gloves.
Survivors include two daughters, Kelly Doss of Chillicothe, Missouri, and Sheila Doss-McQuitty and husband Harold of Columbia, Missouri; two granddaughters, Devon Garton and husband Brian of Rogersville, Missouri, and Meagan Scott of Chillicothe, Missouri; three great grandchildren, Cooper, Lena, and Hattie Garton of Rogersville, Missouri; two sisters, Luzenia Arthaud of Wheeling, Missouri, and Neva Wombwell and husband Robert of Brookfield, Missouri; five brothers, Robert Clawson and wife Pat of Brookfield, Missouri, Richard Clawson and wife Trudy of Brookfield, Missouri, Jerry Clawson of Lauderdale By The Sea, Florida, Donald Clawson and wife Ann of O'Fallon, Missouri, and Ronnie Clawson and wife Julie of Warrensburg, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Sandy Gilmore and husband Richard of North English, Iowa, and Mary Clawson of Sandpoint, Idaho; two brothers-in-law, Flavis Borron of Chula Vista, California, and Larry Tate of Linneus, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, J.B.; great grandson, Grady Garton; four sisters, Arlene Clawson, Myrtle Clawson, Doris Ann Borron, and Judith Tate; and four brothers, Ira Lee Clawson, Mervil Clawson, Billie Joe Clawson, and Roy Clawson.
Funeral services will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Saturday, July 13, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. There is no scheduled visitation. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, July 12, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and on Saturday, July 13, 2019, from 8:00 a.m. until service time. Inurnment will be held at Avalon Cemetery, Avalon, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the House of Prayer and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O.
