Harold Omer Voyles
Harold Omer Voyles, age 95, of Leawood, Kansas peacefully passed away surrounded by loved ones on April 27, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mae and siblings, Roy, Carl, Faye, and Blanche. Both Blanche and Faye preceded Harold in death by less than one month. Harold was born on November 8th 1923 on a small farm in Braymer, Missouri.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a radio operator on the Admiral's staff. His ship fired the first shots in the battle of Iwo Jima, and was in the waters near Hiroshima in the hottest hypocenter of the bomb. After the war, he returned to Braymer. There he met his loving and faithful wife Loretta, beginning their marriage of nearly 71 years. After World War II, Harold worked for the Ford Motor company. He began working on the line and retired as an Industrial Engineer.
Throughout his life he remained a devoted member of the Church of Christ. Harold retired from Ford in 1980 but served as an Industrial Engineering consultant for an additional 14 years. This is consistent with Harold's legacy; he was a generous and skillful man who could fix problems large and small. He will also be remembered for his toughness and resolve. He survived the Great Depression, World War II, atomic radiation, cancer from atomic radiation, and much more, and the world has never heard him complain. He was a strong, quiet and beautiful man who loved animals and cars and his wife Loretta's wonderful cooking.
He will be remembered by his family during joyful times, riding his favorite horse Daisy, at work in his wood shop, carrying his young daughters to bed when they pretended to fall asleep in the car and laughing with them when they celebrated having "fooled" him again, or letting one of his great grandchildren beat him at Chinese checkers. Harold is survived by his wife, Loretta; siblings, Edward, Reve, and Shirley; daughters, Sharon Filipour (Amir Filipour); Gayle Gordon (Barry Gordon); grandchildren, Cameron Filipour, Eric Ficenec (Terra Pierson), Alex Filipour, Kyle (Tabby Ficenec), and Andrew Filipour; and great-grandchildren, Dylan Barnhart, Cash Ficenec, Jada and Layla Pierson.
