Harold George Mael Sr., age 79, a resident of Polo, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at the Clinton Care and Rehab Center in Plattsburg, Missouri. Harold was born the son of John Mael and Anna (Jones) Miller on October 15, 1931 in Kansas City, Missouri. He served in the Army infantry, 24th division, during the Korean War. Sergeant Mael received a host of medals including the bronze star for leading his platoon in taking out a vital enemy machine gun nest. He was honorably discharged in 1952 and returned to Kansas City, Missouri where he married Martha Pennington in 1953. He settled into construction work excelling as a union foreman and superintendent on all types of construction all over the country. Retiring in 1996, he built a small lake front home at Hideaway Lake in Polo, Missouri where he is affection ally known as "Boomer" or "Pop" to his many friends there. He was generous to a fault. He was always helping others. He would build for anyone who needed work on their house or even the church alters steps for his daughter's church. He trusted and gave everyone a chance. He loaned his tools, car, or money if ever really needed. His contagious smile and fun, loving spirit will be missed by all. A huge void is left in the hearts of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as in his adopted family at the lake. He is survived by one son, Gerald Mael of Hardin, Missouri; one daughter, Jenna Petree and husband Pete of Holt, Missouri; two brothers, John and Larry Mael both of Kansas City, Missouri; three sisters, Minnie Stephens and Joan Stallings both of California, and Jean Blackburn of Kansas City, Missouri; three grandchildren, Dan Petree of Kearney, Missouri, Shana Ford of Gladstone, Missouri, and Robbie Mael of California; seven great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Danny and Amoura Petree, Alexis, Connor and Robin Ford , and Tyler Mael; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Martha N. Mael (Penny) in 2001, his son, Harold Mael Jr. in 2001, and his brother, Frank Mael. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lindley Funeral Home in Braymer, Missouri. There will be no scheduled family visitation.
