Harold C. Burnside
Harold C. Burnside, age 96, a resident of Hale, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2019, at Pioneer Skilled Nursing Home, Marceline, Missouri.
Harold was born the son of Harry and Bessie (Billow) Burnside on September 2, 1922, in Hale, Missouri. He attended Battsville grade school and graduated from Hale High School in 1940. He joined the United States Army in the fall of 1942, serving with the Merrill's Marauders Regiment in China, India, and Burma, from September of 1943 until June of 1945. Harold was united in marriage to Hazel Stewart on February 14, 1947, in Marshall, Missouri. She preceded him in death on October 18, 2000. He was a lifelong farmer, having farmed with his father in his earlier years. Harold enjoyed hunting, raising paint horses, mules, and visiting with friends and family. He was a member of the Hale Baptist Church, Hale, Missouri. Harold served as a A.S.C.S. Township committee chairman for 27 years, was a member of the Hale School Board for 7 years, and served as assessor and clerk for the Hurricane Township for over 8 years.
Survivors include one son, Stuart Lee Burnside and wife Janice of Hale, Missouri; two daughters, Denise Windsor and husband Danny of Tina, Missouri, and Marcia Spencer and husband James of Bosworth, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Stacy Warner, Jarrod Warner, Cory Burnside, Clint Burnside, Rachel Wells, Jacey Mohr, and Garra Webb; sixteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Helen O'Neal of Blue Springs, Missouri, and Shirley Zimmerman of Raytown, Missouri; one brother, Ralph Dale Burnside of Catheys Valley, California; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Hazel; one sister, Betty Preator; three brothers-in-law, Chester Preator, Wilburn O'Neal, and William Zimmerman; and one sister-in-law, Leona Burnside.
A graveside service will be held at Hale Memorial Gardens, Hale, Missouri, on Tuesday, August 13, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Hale, Missouri, on Tuesday, August 13, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Hale, Missouri, on Monday, August 12, 2019, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Help Services of Carroll County and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O.
