H. "Burch" Harrington

H. "Burch" Harrington H. "Burch" Harrington, having recently celebrated 99 years of life, passed away Tuesday afternoon, April 7, 2015, at The Baptist Home. Burch was born April 3, 1916 to Quincy and Ethel (Edwards) Harrington in Bucklin, Missouri. Burch was raised on a farm near Atlanta, Missouri. His family included two brothers, Ward and Roy, and two sisters, Fern and Helen. The values of hard work, strong education, and God-centered life were instilled in him from the beginning of his life. He in turn, passed theses values on to his children and grandchildren. In 1937, Burch graduated from the University Of Missouri College Of Agriculture where he met the love of his life. On June 27, 1937 Burch married Ada Elizabeth Jones of Dawn, Mo. They began their life together farming near Chillicothe, but soon moved to a farm near Atlanta, Missouri. After 17 years of farming, Burch began a career with the University of Missouri Extension service. He served at Memphis form 1955 until 1962 and then moved to Unionville. While at Unionville he wrote a weekly column in the Unionville paper called "Burch Bark". In this column he would share the latest farming information along with a humorous story. Burch and Ada loved to travel. They visited all 50 states and also traveled overseas. In 1994 they moved to Chillicothe. Ada passed away in 2004. Burch was involved in the community all through the nineties. He volunteered at the thrift store, enjoyed Senior Center activities, and could be seen exercising at the YMCA five morning a week. Burch was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing the "fruits" of his labor with others. Burch and Ada enjoyed their children, their 15 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren. Their seven children include: Larry Harrington (Patsy) of Fayette, MO., Harvey Harrington (MaryAnn) of Dawn, MO., Phyllis Brundage (deceased) (Charles) of Green Castle, MO; Nathan Harrington (deceased), Jane Montgomery (Gail) of Belton, MO; Elaine Starr (Frank) of Raytown, MO; and John Harrington of Kansas City, MO. He was also preceded in death by son-in-law Dean May and daughter-in-law Norma Harrington. Burch received many awards during his lifetime including Distinguished Service Award, National Association of County Agricultural Agents, 1973, University of Missouri Extension Association Public Information Award, 1976. He was a member of Unionville Rotary club, Member and deacon of Chariton Ridge Baptist Church, Macon County, First Baptist Church, Memphis, MO, and Omaha Baptist church, Unionville. He was an active member of First Baptist Church, Chillicothe since 1994. He was Husband, Daddy, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa, and a much-loved servant of Jesus Christ. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Saturday, April 11, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. A scheduled family visitation will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, April 10, 2015, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, April 10, 2015, from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Steele Cemetery, Atlanta, Missouri, on Saturday, April 11, 2015, at 2:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to The Baptist Home and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O.
