Gwendolyn "Darlene" Lowe
Gwendolyn Darlene Lowe, age 86, a resident of Blue Springs, Missouri, formerly of Wheeling, Missouri, passed away on Friday, February 15, 2019, at Oak Grove Nursing and Rehab, Oak Grove, Missouri.
Darlene was born the daughter of Russel and Orva Pearl "Peggy" (Oxford) Best on November 4, 1932, in Chillicothe, Missouri. She was a 1950 graduate of Wheeling High School. She was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Jean Lowe on September 3, 1952, in Bucklin, Missouri. He preceded her in death on March 28, 2016. Darlene worked as a dietary cook at the Ellis Fischel Cancer Hospital at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri, retiring in 1994. She was a member of the Wheeling Christian Church, Wheeling, Missouri, where she taught Sunday school and vacation bible school, and assisted with the centennial book. She served as a den mother for Cub Scout Pack 104. Darlene enjoyed dancing, collecting postcards and cups from different states. In later years, her passion became genealogy, working on many family histories. Darlene's green card from The Western Cherokee Nation of Arkansas & Missouri indicated she was 17/32 Cherokee Indian.
Survivors include four children, Robert Jeffery Lowe and wife Susan of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Sheree' Roxanne Lowe of Blue Springs, Missouri, Barry Jean Lowe of Four Seasons, Missouri, and Terry Dean Lowe of Chula, Missouri; three grandchildren, Jennifer Elaine Lowe Wheeler and husband Cory of Lee's Summit, Missouri, James Michael Lowe and wife Katie of Chillicothe, Missouri, and Brooke Nicole Lowe High and husband Jamie of Lawson, Missouri; four step grandchildren, Robert O'Connell and wife Jessica of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Vanessa O'Connell Harnas and husband Sean of Pensacola, Florida, Josiah O'Connell of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Jonathan O'Connell and wife Tara of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; eight great grandchildren, Mathias Rhodes, Cambridge, Trinity, and Cayden Wheeler all of Lee's Summit, Missouri, Benjamin Lee, Brayden Alexander, Bryson James and Jacey Marie of Lawson, Missouri; and six step great grandchildren, Jadyn, Gracie, Lilyana, and Ezra Harnas of Pensacola, Florida, and Kaiden and Layla O'Connell of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob; twin daughters, Sheila Raye and Shelly Gaye Lowe; and her brother, Billy Harold Best.
Funeral services will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Saturday, February 23, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Saturday, February 23, 2019, one hour prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, February 22, 2019, from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Wheeling Cemetery, Wheeling, Missouri.
