Gwendolyn A. Jennings
Gwendolyn A. Jennings, age 88, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Morningside Center, Chillicothe, Missouri.
Gwen was born the only child of Harry and Esther (Patterson) Metzner on March 21, 1936, in Chillicothe, Missouri. She was a 1954 Tina-Avan High School Graduate. On September 20, 1953, she married Leroy Jennings in Centerville, Iowa. They enjoyed 67 beautiful years of marriage before he preceded her in death in 2021. She was a housemother at the Chillicothe Training School for Girls for over 20 years and was employed by the Boss Glove Factory prior to that.
Her hobbies included gardening, especially tending to her flowers and her yard. Even as she grew older, she would stay outside after sundown picking up sticks while in her wheel chair. She also enjoyed taking care of the birds by feeding several different types including hummingbirds and purple martins. In her early years she would enjoy taking motorcycle rides along with her husband. They enjoyed traveling together as they spent over 30 summers in Florida by way of their RV. She and Leroy also took several cruises. She was a member of the Garden Club, the Farmettes and the Burnside Cemetery Association.
Survivors include one daughter, Debbie Miner and husband, Mic, of Lenexa, Kansas; two sons, David Jennings and wife, Arlinda, of Arkansas and Ron Jennings and wife, Michelle, of Cypress, Texas; eight grandchildren, Nicole Jennings, Ashton Polk, and husband, Donte, Christopher Miner, Shelby Jennings, Zachary Jennings, Tyler Jennings, Isabella Jennings, Diana Mai and Joshua Jennings; two great grandchildren, Camron and Christian Polk; one sister-in-law, Charlene Meyers and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Leroy, and one son, Steve Jennings.
Funeral services will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., with burial to follow at Edgewood Cemetery, Chillicothe, Missouri. A scheduled visitation will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, April 12, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, April 12, 2024, from 12:00 noon until 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, PO Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri, 64601.
