Gladys Marie Howe

Gladys Marie Howe, age 85, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away at Livingston Manor, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Tuesday, August 7, 2012. Gladys was born the daughter of William Henry Peters and Eva Marie Rittle on July 8, 1927, in Hoven, South Dakota. She was a 1945 graduate of Hoven High School. On December 4, 1948, she married Francis "Buzz" Howe. He preceded her in death on March 2, 2009. In 1961 the Howe family moved to Laredo. Gladys has spent the last fifteen years at Livingston Manor. Gladys was a very special lady. As her eight children were growing up she was a very busy lady. She was a den mother, room mother, and a 4-H instructor for knitting and sewing. In the late 60's she was a teacher's aide, then became a Headstart teacher, and after that she became director of the Headstart for the Greenhill's nine counties. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Trenton, St. Ann's Altar Society, a Lions Club member, and a volunteer for the Laredo Ambulance. When Gladys turned 48 she became an LPN and worked at Wright Memorial Hospital and Hedrick Medical Center as an ICU Nurse. For years the Howe's wintered in Columbus, Texas where Gladys was very involved in the church, hospital axillary, and the library. Gladys made thousands of rosary's to send to other countries. Mrs. Howe loved to knit, crochet and sew. She enjoyed reading and anything that kept her hands busy. Everyone who ever met her thought she was a great lady. With all her accomplishments, she loved being a mom and taking care of her kids. She is survived by four daughters; Susan Cooksey and husband Dan of Laredo, Missouri, Francine Lee and husband Robert of Kirksville, Missouri, Mary Walburn and husband Ray of Palmyra, Missouri, and Margaret Leeper and husband Larry of Princeton, Missouri; four sons, William Howe and wife Beverly of Columbus, Texas, Clifford Howe and wife Kim of Laredo, Missouri, Peter Howe and wife Martha of Raytown, Missouri, and Rudy Howe of Wichita, Kansas; twenty-one grandchildren, forty-one great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Francis; stepfather, Frank Peters; two grandsons, Jake Leeper and wife Stacy, and Brian Lee; one granddaughter, Tamara Huffman; one great granddaughter, Tara Leeper. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Trenton, Missouri, on Saturday, August 11, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. A Parish Rosary will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Laredo, Missouri, on Friday, August 10, 2012, at 5:30 p.m. with a family visitation to follow from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 12 noon until 9:00 p.m. Burial will be held in Stucker Cemetery, Laredo, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
