Gilbert L. Cox
Gilbert L. Cox, age 92, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at Hedrick Medical Center, Chillicothe, Missouri.
Gilbert was born the son of Delbert Lee and Iva Maude (Tracy) Cox on May 18, 1931, in Bogard, Missouri. He was a 1949 graduate of Chillicothe High School. He enlisted into the United States Navy on September 9, 1950, and served during the Korean War, until his honorable discharge on June 22, 1954. Gilbert was united in marriage to Nelda R. Osborn on August 31, 1980, in Chillicothe, Missouri. She survives of the home. He operated Cox and Son Body Shop in Bogard, Missouri, with his father. He then worked as an Insurance Claims Adjuster for Shelter Insurance Company for 31 years. After he retired from Shelter, Gilbert and his daughter, Barbara, opened Father and Daughter Antiques in Chillicothe. Their motto was “Buy High, Sell Low”. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Chillicothe, Missouri. He was also a member of the Wakenda Masonic Lodge No. 52 AF&AM in Carrollton, Missouri, as well as the Friendship Masonic Lodge #89 of Chillicothe, Missouri.
Gilbert is also survived by three daughters, Debbie Dickerson and husband, Jack, Barbara Jenkins and husband, Mark, and Becky Eckert and husband, Rick, all of Chillicothe, Missouri; ten grandchildren, Leigha Leppin and husband, Ean, Nathan Zabka and wife, Kelly, Brook Dickerson and wife, Amy, Rachel Courtney and husband, Patrick, Jessie Leppin, and husband, Elliott, Hannah McDonald, Derek Eckert and Hailee Beemer, Hanna Myrick and husband, C.J., Lindsay Eckert, and Joshua Eckert; thirty-nine great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and several nieces and nephews. Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Sara Howard; two great grandsons, Hugo Dickerson and Jack Courtney; five sisters, Angelina Gray, Ethel Paxton, Evelyn Cowan, Iva Lee Knouse, and Lela Phillips; and three brothers, Delbert Lee Cox, Jr., and two others at birth.
Funeral services will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Monday, August 28, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Monday, August 28, 2023, from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Ebenezer Cemetery, Bogard, Missouri.
