Gerald Wayne Switzer Gerald Switzer, age 80, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at John C. Lincoln North Mountain Hospital, Phoenix, Arizona. Gerald was born the son of Cecil and Jeanette (Brenneman) Switzer on November 11, 1933, in Wheeling, Missouri. Gerald graduated from Chillicothe High School, Chillicothe, Missouri, in 1951. He served in the United States Air Force from 1952 until 1956 during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Peggy Hessenflow on February 12, 1955, in Chillicothe, Missouri. She survives of the home. They made their home in Livingston County. Gerald worked for the United States Postal Service serving as postmaster in Pleasant Hill and Richmond, Missouri before retiring in 1990. He was baptized at the First Christian Church and attended the First Baptist Church, Chillicothe. During his life Gerald was very active in Boy Scouts. He was a Webelos Den Leader, an Assistant Scout Master for Troop #120, and was a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He was also a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, R.S.V.P. and Elks Lodge. Survivors include wife Peggy Switzer of the home; four sons, Greg Switzer of Springfield, Missouri, Mark Switzer and wife Shawn of Mooresville, Missouri, Brent Switzer and wife Diana of Johns Creek, Georgia, and Doug Switzer and wife Janet of Leawood, Kansas; nine grandchildren, Drew Pepper, Matt Switzer, Jason Switzer, Erin Divinski, Jake Switzer, Steven Switzer, Ellie Wardell, Cole Switzer, and Nate Switzer; one great-grandchild, Raygan Divinski; and one sister Dorothy Spidle of Chillicothe, Missouri. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law Judy Nealy and husband Randy of Phoenix, Arizona and Judy Shipp and husband Everett of Chillicothe, Missouri and several nieces or nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services will be held at the First Baptist Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Monday, January 20, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. A scheduled family visitation will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Sunday, January 19, 2014, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Sunday, January 19, 2014, from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Chillicothe, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church and/or Boy Scouts Troop #120 and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
