Fred Nelson Laffey Fred Nelson Laffey, age 76, a resident of St. Joseph, Missouri, former resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at Mosaic Life Care Center, St. Joseph, Missouri. Fred was born the son of Fred Russell and Esther (Wilson) Laffey, on March 12, 1939, in Sampsel, Missouri of Livingston County. He was a 1957 graduate of Chillicothe High School. Fred served in the United States Air Force from October 2, 1958 to November 29, 1960. On June 22, 1958, he married Joyce Parker in Chillicothe, Missouri. Fred helped his dad farm and eventually raised pigs on his own land. He earned his Commercial Pilot license in Chillicothe. He won multiple awards while running in track during both high school and college. He worked as a lineman and then Manager for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 37 years. Fred was a member of the Optimist, Shriners and the Friendship Lodge #89 He served as a Boy Scout Leader and was active helping with the Eagle Scouts of the Mic-O-Say tribe. Fred was a past Deacon of the First Baptist Church in Chillicothe and during this time served on several mission trips going to such places as Costa Rica and Nicaragua. He was active in the Mens Brotherhood prayer group of Wyatt Park Baptist Church. Fred also looked forward to his weekly breakfast and coffee friendship group. He enjoyed bowling and golfing. He was proud of his Hole-In-One that he got at the Heritage Palms golf course in Florida during one of his many golfing trips with his brothers. He was a fan of John Deere and an avid lawn mowing enthusiast. Fred is survived by his wife, Joyce Laffey, of St. Joseph, Missouri; one son, Mitch Laffey, of Kansas City, Missouri; three daughters, Michelle Lechner and husband Ernie of Union, Nebraska, Melissa Huff and husband Tim, of Kearney, Missouri, Kasha Laffey, of St. Joseph, Missouri; three brothers, Don Laffey and wife Linda, of Kearney, Missouri, Jim Laffey, of Chillicothe, Missouri, and Lowell Laffey and wife Barbara of Chillicothe, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Shain Laffey and wife Megan, Alyssa Walsh and husband Joe, Drew Lechner, Blake Lechner, Adam Wood and wife Casey, Aaron Huff, Khali Huff and Nykolas Laffey and one great granddaughter, Savannah Wood. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Marty Laffey. Services will be held at the Wyatt Park Baptist Church, on Thursday, June 25, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. A family visitation will be held at the Wyatt Park Baptist Church, on Thursday, June 25, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Friends may call after 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri. Burial will be held at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Chillicothe, Missouri on Thursday, June 25, 2015, at 2:30 p.m. Memorial Contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation and may be left at or mailed to the Lindley Funeral Home, P.O.
