Frances (Ila) Singleton Frances (Ila) Singleton, age 98, a resident of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, former resident of Hale, Missouri, passed away on Friday, June 13, 2014, at Valley Manor and Rehab in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. Ila was born the daughter of Daniel and Daisy (Pierce) Figg on June 27, 1915, in Bedford, Missouri. She was united in marriage to Stanley Singleton on March 26, 1930, in Laclede, Missouri. He preceded her in death on March 20, 1985. She worked as a Correspondent for the Constitution Tribune Newspaper in Chillicothe, Missouri for 40 years, covering the Hale, Bedford, and Avalon areas. Ila also wrote short stories for many books and magazines. She had a great interest in children. Survivors include one daughter, Grace Thompson and husband Raymond of Holt, Missouri; five grandchildren, Daniel Singleton, Bob Canterbury, Richard Canterbury, Larry Ryther, and Joan Binnie. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Stanley; two sons, Stanley and Daniel Singleton; and one daughter Sharon Crawford. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Avalon Cemetery, Avalon, Missouri. A scheduled family visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri.
