Evelyn Lucille (Gilstrap) Stelplugh, age 90, a resident of Paris, Missouri, former resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, and Columbia, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2019, at Monroe Manor, Paris, Missouri.
Evelyn was born the daughter of James Roy and Mary E. (Kingen) Bright on November 25, 1928, in Macon, Missouri. She graduated from Macon High School, at the age of 16. At that time, she began teaching in a one room school near Excello, Missouri. Evelyn taught for over 30 years. She attended Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, Missouri, earning her Master's Degree in Learning Disabilities. She was united in marriage to Russel Gilstrap on May 28, 1950. He preceded her in death on June 29, 1975. She was then united in marriage to Leland Edward Stelplugh on July 23, 1978, in Meadville, Missouri. He preceded her in death on June 30, 2008. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Columbia, Missouri. Evelyn was also a member of the Missouri State Teachers Association. She was very active in the First Christian Church in Chillicothe, Missouri. Evelyn enjoyed traveling with Leland. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons, Jon Gilstrap of Jefferson City, Missouri, David Gilstrap and wife Deny of Columbia, Missouri, and Bradly Gilstrap of Phoenix, Arizona; one daughter, Brenda Campbell of St. Joseph, Missouri; four grandchildren, Molly Lickteig and husband Andrew of Frisco, Texas, Andrew Gilstrap and wife Adria of Clayton, Missouri, Charles Gilstrap of Kansas City, Missouri, and Natalie Gilstrap of Austin, Texas; and three great grandchildren, Jagger Alan and Ainsley Grace Gilstrap of Clayton, Missouri, and Aundrea Lickteig of Frisco, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russel; husband Leland; two granddaughters, Carmen Campbell and Grace Marie Gilstrap; and two brothers, George Bright, Sr. and Kenneth Bright.
Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church, Paris, Missouri, on Friday, March 1, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church, Paris, Missouri, on Friday, March 1, 2019, one hour prior to the service at 12 noon until 1:00 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Thursday, February 28, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Paris, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the Special Learning Center of Jefferson City and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
