Ethyl C. Canterbury Ethyl Christina Canterbury passed away January 6, 2013, at age 101, at Morningside Center, Chillicothe, Missouri. She was born in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Fredrick and Anna Worden. On September 11, 1931, she married Theodore R. Canterbury. After her marriage in Kansas City, Missouri, she did fundraising for various charities and organizations and worked with Girl Scouts. She later worked in San Diego, California while waiting for her husband to return from his Naval Service. After her education in the Independence and Kansas City schools she was encouraged to pursue a career in music. She did studies in music and received a diploma from The Chicago University Conservatory and later The National Guild of Piano Teachers. Continuing a music tradition in Chillicothe she and her husband Ted purchased The Chillicothe Music Co. from Edgar Reynolds and began Canterbury Music Center. They retired in 1984 and sold their business to other owners. Although music instruction and instrument sales was full time work Ethyl found time to join the Mid America Music Association, serving as a president and other board positions. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, of Chillicothe. Survivors include her daughter Ethelyn, and husband Haynie, of Chillicothe, Missouri; daughter-in-law Mary Ann Canterbury, of West Sun City, Arizona; grandchildren, Jennifer Dettmann, and Paul, of Chillicothe, Missouri, Bradford Thompson, of Blue Springs, Missouri, Robert Canterbury, and Bonnie, of Kansas City, Kansas, Richard Canterbury, and Dixie, of Las Vegas, Nevada, Steve Canterbury, and Terri, of Germantown, Maryland, and Susan Canterbury, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; numerous great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Richard; and four sisters. Services will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri. There will be a family visitation on Thursday, January 10, 2013 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Chillicothe, Missouri.
