Ethel Irene Melton Ethel Irene Melton, age 94, passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at Livingston Manor Nursing Home, Chillicothe, Missouri. Ethel was born the daughter of Edmund and Daisy (Brugh) Hicklin on September 5, 1919, in Livingston County, Missouri. She was a 1938 CHS graduate. She was united in marriage to Allen Bernard Atkins on June 8, 1941. He preceded her in death on November 4, 1945. She was united in marriage to Clyde Melton on May 1, 1949 in Chillicothe, Missouri. He preceded her in death on June 11, 1966. Survivors include two sons, Edward Atkins of Loudon, Tennessee, and Ronald Atkins of Irvine, California; a step-daughter Lynne (Melton) Geiger of Chesterfield, Missouri; and a sister Ruth Jones of Chillicothe; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; as well as numerous cousins and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, three brothers, a sister, and a step-son Lance Melton. Ethel worked as secretary to the mayor of Chillicothe for seven different mayors (1968/1984), Scruby's Hardware, the High School, and volunteered at Threads. She was a member of the First Christian Church, American Legion Auxiliary, and Daughters of the American Revolution. A Memorial Service will be held at the First Christian Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, September 5, 2014, at 10:00 am. There is no scheduled family visitation. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Thursday, September 4, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Burial will held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church or your favorite charity. Online condolences may be made at www.lindleyfuneralhome.com .
