Elmer "Buddy" John Rome

Elmer "Buddy" John Rome Elmer "Buddy" John Rome, age 89, a resident of Lansing, Kansas, former resident of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2015, at Twin Oaks Health and Rehabilitation, in Lansing, Kansas. Buddy was born the son of Peter Jacob and Sophia (Dreiling) Rome on August 14, 1925, in Hays, Kansas. He was a 1943 graduate of Victoria High School, Victoria, Kansas. He served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1943 until 1946, as a Radioman 2nd Class. Buddy was united in marriage to Dolores T. Widmar on June 14, 1947, at the Cathedral of St. Peter Church, Kansas City, Kansas. She preceded him in death on June 9, 1993. He worked as a Warehouse Driver for Phillips Petroleum for 30 years until his retirement in 1982. While working at Phillips Petroleum, he served as President of OCAW Local Union, President of the Credit Union and manager of the fast pitch softball team. Buddy was a member of the Christ the King Catholic Church, Kansas City, Kansas, where he served as an Usher of the church. Survivors include three sons, John Rome and wife Ruth of Shawnee, Kansas, Thomas Rome and wife Debbie of Kansas City, Kansas, and Robert "Bob" Rome and wife Cheryl of Kansas City, Kansas; two daughters, Janet Rome of Tonganoxie, Kansas, and Joan Gideon and husband Gene of Tonganoxie, Kansas; eleven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one brother, Emery Rome of Hays, Kansas; one sister, Edna Stecklein of Hays, Kansas; and two sisters-in-law, Rosemary Masters and husband Vernon of Chillicothe, Missouri, and Joan Monley of Johnson County, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dolores; one granddaughter, Marie Rome; and two brothers, Marvin Rome and Bernie Rome. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Christ the King Catholic Church, Kansas City, Kansas, on Monday, June 29, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. A Parish Rosary will be held at the Christ the King Catholic Church, Kansas City, Kansas, on Monday, June 29, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. with family visitation to follow until 11:00 a.m. Burial will be held at Edwardsville Cemetery, Edwardsville, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
