Elaine Kay Knittel Elaine Kay Knittel, age 69, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2018, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Richmond, Missouri. Elaine was born the daughter of Mathus Walter and Ila Fay (Rhoades) Black on February 6, 1949, in Winnsboro, Texas. She was a 1966 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School, Mt. Vernon, Texas. After graduation, she attended Texas Women's University in Denton, Texas. She then attended East Texas University in Commerce, Texas. Elaine was united in marriage to Rev. Paul A. Knittel on February 11, 1979, in Sulphur Springs, Texas. He preceded her in death on May 8, 2004. She worked as a teacher's aide at Verelle Peniston State School, Chillicothe, Missouri, for 27 years. Elaine was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Chillicothe, Missouri. She served as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. Survivors include one son, Stephen Knittel and wife Meghan of Omaha, Nebraska; two daughters, Janine Clampitt and husband Chris of Richmond, Missouri, and Kristen VanDyke and husband Duane of Des Moines, Iowa; six grandchildren, Adam VanDyke, Andrew Jero, Jessica Clampitt, Caleb Clampitt, Annelise Knittel, and Emma Jo Knittel; one great grandchild, Carter Clampitt; and two sisters, Lynda Gilmore of Richardson, Texas, and Elease Hubbell and husband Jerry of Mt. Vernon, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Rev. Paul Knittel. A Memorial Service will be held at the St. John's Lutheran Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, April 20, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Thursday, April 19, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Thursday, April 19, 2018, from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date at Edgewood Cemetery, Chillicothe, Missouri.
