Edwina Lee Lewis
Edwina Lee (McCartney) Lewis, of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2024, at the remarkable age of 102.
Edwina was born on November 28, 1921, in Breckenridge, Missouri, the daughter of Robert and Flossie McCartney.
Edwina attended Breckenridge High School and was a graduate of the class of 1939. She regularly attended the Breckenridge Alumni Banquet and was very proud of her title as the oldest Alumni for many years. She was excited to celebrate her 85th class reunion this year.
After High School, Edwina moved to Kansas City to begin working. She regularly returned home to visit her family where they lived above the bar they owned, The Broadway Tavern. She then went on to meet the love of her life. She became Mrs. Edward Lewis on February 7, 1945. Edwina and Edward spent many years working in different cities across the U.S. so that they could travel the country together. Edwina worked alongside her husband as an Aircraft Inspector during WWII at Douglas Aircraft in Kansas City, Missouri.
Edwina's true passion was caring for children. After settling down in Los Angeles, California, in 1952, Edwina and Edward spent several years as foster parents until their first child was born in 1958. Edwina dedicated her years after that to being a wonderful and loving mother to her two sons, Robert and Rocky.
Edwina was known for being full of life. She was happy, caring, generous and resilient. She loved her family more than anything and served as the matriarch for years. Edwina went by Mom, Grandma, GG, Aunt Eddie, and Toots. She was deeply loved and admired by all of her family. Edwina liked to spend her time quilting, gardening, and had a special interest in genealogy, which she was very knowledgeable in. She was full of decades of wisdom and enjoyed passing it down to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Edwina spent her entire life living in her own home, just as she had wished. She looked forward to her visitors and especially from her niece, Karen, who helped with all of the tasks that made it possible for her to stay in her home.
Edwina is survived by her son, Robert Lewis and wife, Patricia; sister, Betty McCartney Evilsizer; grandchildren: Laurien (Piper) Lewis, Morgan (Joshua) Lewis, Allane Lewis, Donovan Lewis, Derek Montgomery, and Dillan Montgomery; great-grandchildren: Sky, Mylah, Theo, and Milo; and several loving nieces and great-nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her Husband, Edward Lewis; son, James (Rocky) Lewis; and siblings, Kate Bealer, Pete McCartney, and Robert McCartney.
