Edward "Winston" Buckner Edward "Winston" Buckner, age 89, a resident of Wheeling, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2016, at Hedrick Medical Center, Chillicothe, Missouri. Winston was born the son of John William and Maggie (Hammack) Buckner on May 14, 1927, in Eversonville, Missouri. He served in the United States Merchant Marines from 1944 until 1947 during World War II. He then served in the United States Marine Corps from 1952 until 1953 during the Korean War. Winston was united in marriage to Frances Lee Smiley on January 4, 1948, in Wheeling, Missouri. She survives of the home. Winston was a farmer in the Wheeling Community for over 60 years. He was an active member of the Wheeling Baptist Church, Wheeling, Missouri, where he served as a Deacon. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was an avid croquet player. He served 20 years as the Parade Chairman for Wheeling Homecoming, served on the Bill Hoyt Distinguished Service Award Committee; served as past president and officer of the Wheeling R4 School Board for 12 years; past vice president of the Livingston Farm Bureau, served 8 years on the Farmers Home Administration Board, and served with the Livingston County A.S.C.S. for 18 years; and on 4 years on the Livingston County Extension Council. He was the trustee for the Wheeling Township Board for 14 years, and served as President of the Forrest & Doris Sensenich Foundation for 16 years. Winston received the Livingston County Soil Conservation Award in 1993, and represented Livingston County as farm family in 1968 at the Missouri State Fair. Survivors include wife, Frances of the home; one son, Joseph Ray Buckner of Wheeling, Missouri; one daughter, Marilee Smalley and husband Chad of Wichita, Kansas; five grandchildren, John Ed Cook and wife Alix of Wichita, Kansas, Wendy Jo Ryan and fiancé John Kenney of Wichita, Kansas, Jessica Nickel and husband Jason of Wichita, Kansas, Katlin Buckner of Wheeling, Missouri, and Joseph Ray Buckner, Jr. and fiancé Haley Garrison of Chillicothe, Missouri; and three great grandchildren, Jordan Edward Cook of Wichita, Kansas, Luke Thomas Ryan of Wichita, Kansas, and Joseph Cash (JC) Woody of Wheeling, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; and three sisters. Funeral services will be held at the Wheeling Baptist Church, Wheeling, Missouri, on Monday, October 31, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. A scheduled family visitation will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Sunday, October 30, 2016, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Sunday, October 30, 2016, from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Wheeling Cemetery, Wheeling, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wheeling Baptist Church and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
