Edna Pearl (Swartz) Riegel Edna Pearl (Swartz) Riegel, age 97, a resident of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2015, at Excelsior Springs Nursing and Rehab, Excelsior Springs, Missouri. Edna was born the daughter of Ray and Ocea (Gannaway) Swartz on October 9, 1917, in Cowgill, Missouri. She was a graduate of Cowgill High School, Cowgill, Missouri. She was united in marriage to Jim Riegel on August 18, 1940, in Sedalia, Missouri. He preceded her in death on November 12, 1993. Edna worked as a secretary for the American Hereford Association where she retired after 27 years. She was a member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. Survivors include one son Gary Riegel and wife Mary of Excelsior Springs, Missouri; one daughter, Jane Riehl of Kansas City, Missouri; four grandchildren, Kenny Riegel and wife Abby of Breckenridge, Missouri, Beverly Springer of Kearney Missouri, Kimberly Black of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, and Malissa Riehl of Kansas City, Missouri; four great-grandchildren, James and Jamie Riegel, and Alex and Kaycie Springer; and two sisters Donna Carrel of Shawnee, Kansas, and Shirley Hanshaw and husband Bill of Riverside, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jim Riegel; one brother, T.R. Swartz; and one sister Faye Kimbly. Funeral services will be held at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, Kansas City, Missouri, on Thursday, January 8, 2015, at 11:30 a.m. Visitation will be held at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, Kansas City, Missouri, on Thursday, January 8, 2015, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Wednesday, January 7, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Burial will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery, Braymer, Missouri, at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2015. Memorial contributions may be made to Preferred Hospice, Lexington, Missouri, and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
