Dortha Fern Thompson

Dortha Fern Adkison Thompson, age 83, a resident of Braymer, Missouri passed away peacefully with her loved ones beside her at Heartland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph, Missouri on Thursday, February 4, 2010. Born November 11, 1926 in Cameron, Missouri the daughter of the late Clifford and Luella Scurlock of Hamilton, Missouri. She married the late Claude Adkison on November 7, 1943. Dortha worked at the Hamilton Shoe Factory, Braymer Toy Factory, Gorham Auto, and retired after 12 years as a custodian at Braymer C-4 School in Braymer, Missouri. She enjoyed listening to gospel and old time country music. Her hobbies were making quilts and crocheting. She so loved the family gatherings with all her children. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Braymer, Missouri. Survivors include children, Claudia Terhune of Boonville, Missouri, Wayne Adkison and wife Donna of Braymer, Missouri, Margaret Watts and husband Jim of Carrollton, Missouri, Hank Adkison and wife Becky of Cliffton Hill, Missouri, Martha Lister and husband Jeff of Smithville, Missouri, Dale Adkison of Braymer, Missouri, Joyce Cozad and husband John of St. Joseph, Missouri; one sister, Twilla Scurlock of Hamilton, Missouri; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by the late Mel Thompson. Services will be held on Monday, February 8, 2010 at Lindley Funeral Home in Braymer, Missouri at 1:00 p.m. There will be a family visitation on Monday from 12:00 noon until service time at the funeral home. Friends may call on Sunday from 12:00 noon until 8:00 p.m. at Lindley Funeral Home in Braymer, Missouri. Burial will be held in Cameron Memory Gardens, Cameron, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association and\or First Baptist Church and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, PO Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
