Dorothy Ellen (Foltz) Singer, age 94, a resident of Chillicothe Missouri, passed away on December 17, 2022, at Morningside Center, Chillicothe, Missouri.

Dorothy was born to Vearla Merritt and Nina Birdean (Stephens) Foltz on October 13, 1928, at the family home in Hale, Missouri.

At the early age of 12, she accepted the Lord, was baptized in the Grand River at Hale, and placed membership with the Hale Church of Christ, moving her membership to the Chillicothe Church of Christ in 1954.

She graduated from Hale High School in May 1946. She attended Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg, Missouri, and taught rural grade school at Tow String and Dulaney Schools in Hale and 2 years in the Hale Grade School.

On September 24, 1949, she married Herschel E. Singer Jr., known to most as Joe. They were the parents of three sons, Randall Joe of St. Louis, Ronald Jay, who preceded her in death in 2019, and Gail Eugen, who died at birth.

After teaching, Dorothy worked as a clerk typist for a construction company in San Clemente, California, and Kansas City MO.

In July of 1954, Joe and Dorothy moved to Chillicothe. They purchased Chillicothe Locker Storage Company, which was later named Singer Locker Service, where she was the bookkeeper and co-owner until they retired on April 1, 2015.

She was a charter member of the Harmony Homemakers Club, a member of Central School PTA for 10 years, and a member and Past President of the Chillicothe Garden Club for 54 years. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary since 1986, an RSVP volunteer since 1988, and a member of the board of the Senior Citizens of Livingston County, Missouri, from 1998 until they dissolved in 2016.

Besides gardening, her hobby was traveling. She, Joe, and their sons have been in all 50 states and several foreign countries, and she and Joe have done extensive traveling overseas, having been to Israel twice.

She is survived by one son: Randy and his wife Cindy; one daughter-in-law, Ron's wife, Cindy; three grandchildren: Robert Singer and his wife Faith, Michael Singer, and Ashley Singer-Falkner and her husband Gary; one step-grandson Shawn O'Brien and his wife Becca; two great-grandchildren: Emerald and Mason. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe, two sons Ronald and Gail, her brother and sister-in-law Ralph and Frances Foltz, and one nephew, Lee Foltz.

While there is no scheduled family visitation, calling hours are from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at Lindley Funeral Home. Graveside Services will be announced at a later time pending the weather conditions. Interment will be held in the Hale Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Operation Help or the Grand River Multi-Purpose Center and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
