Donna Faye Johnston, age 93, a resident of Kansas City, Missouri, a former resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2020, at Centerpoint Medical Center, Independence, Missouri.
Donna was born the daughter of Charles M. and Bernice D. (Clay) Gonder on May 9, 1927, in Hale, Missouri. She was a 1945 graduate of Hale High School. Donna was united in marriage to Robert E. Johnston on July 14, 1945, in Chillicothe, Missouri. He preceded her in death on August 2, 1985. Donna was a member of the McMurry United Methodist Church, Kansas City, Missouri.
Donna made a business during her life making Birthday and wedding cakes. She touched so many lives with her kind heart and delicious, intricate, beautifully decorated cakes. She was known by many simply as "The Cake lady".
Survivors include two sons, Billy Bob "Bill" Johnston of Gilbert Arizona, and Charles E. "Chuck" Johnston of Kansas City, Missouri; one daughter, Gloria Faye Sharp of Mission, Texas; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; one brother, Billie Clay Gonder; one sister, Marian Rae Bockting; and by a great grandson, Tarrian Heister.
Graveside services will be held at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Saturday, October 24, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at the McMurry United Methodist Church, 25 Eugene Field Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64119, on Friday, October 23, 2020, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation and/or McMurry United Methodist Church and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O.
