Donald Chester Thompson
Donald Chester Thompson, age 93, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2024, at Hedrick Medical Center, Chillicothe, Missouri. Donald was born the son of Chester Barkley and Doris Edna (Adkison) Thompson on May 15, 1930 in Chillicothe, Missouri. He was a charter member of the Chillicothe Future Farmers of America and a graduate of Chillicothe High School. Post high school he enlisted in the National Guard. He was active from 1947-1962. He also began working maintenance and repair at the Lambert Glove Factory. It was said that Donald could fix or rebuild every machine in the factory. It would be the only job he would ever have as he retired with 55 years of service. On October 16, 1959, he married Ethel Alice Sargent in Meadville, Missouri. She survives of the home. Before they met, Ethel had been made aware by her sister of a handsome man that lived up the road near Farmersville, Missouri. Her sister tried to set them up, but the time just wasn’t right. Fifteen years later, she met Donald for the first time. They immediately hit it off and started dating, leading to their eventual marriage.
Donald was a member of the Highview Baptist Church. Donald was big into gardening. His garden was featured in the Constitution Tribune many times as the featured Garden of the Week. He also enjoyed hunting and bowling.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel; his sister-in-law, Dianna Dockstader of Brunswick, Missouri; and over 20 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Thompson and a sister, Joyce Dowell.
