Donald Love Smiley
Donald Love Smiley of Wheeling, MO died March 21 at the age of 88. Donald was born October 23, 1933, in Wheeling, the son of Frank E. Smiley, Jr. and Beaulah Mae Love. In 1951 he graduated from the Wheeling High School.

Don was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wheeling, Vern R. Glick Post #25 American Legion, Wheeling Cemetery Association, and Wheeling Rural Fire Department Board. He also served on the Wheeling RIV School Board, Wheeling Housing Board, Wheeling Summer Playground Association, Wheeling City Council, and served many years on Wheeling Homecoming Committees.
Don loved sports of all kinds, having played basketball and baseball in high school, Ban Johnson baseball as an adult, and later softball for many years. He, along with Dorothy's help, organized and coached baseball and softball in the Wheeling Summer Playground Association.
After graduating from high school, he was employed at Firestone Tire Company until entering The United States Army on February 18, 1954. He completed his basic training at Fort Bliss in El Paso, TX and then attended Ordinance School in Aberdeen, MD. He served in the 704th Ordinance, 701st Ordinance, and the 26th Infantry Tank Company, 1st Division in Germany as a Track Vehicle Repairman.
Upon returning from the service, Don was in the automotive parts business in Chillicothe, MO. He was a co-owner of White Auto and Big A Automotive, and later worked in the John Deere farm equipment parts business until his retirement.
Survivors include wife Dorothy, of the home, daughter, Mary Elizabeth Wohlford and husband Donald of Kansas City, MO, son, Mark Wayne Smiley, of Winston Salem NC. Three grandchildren, Nicholas Aaron Wohlford and wife Samantha of Kansas City MO, Sarah Jeannette Wohlford of Kansas City MO and Stuart Bateman Smiley of Eden North Carolina. Two great-granddaughters Bailey Monroe Wohlford and Chloe Marie Wohlford, and a step great-grandson Jayden Gilliam. Several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents Frank E. (Jr.) and Beaulah Smiley, oldest son James Donald Smiley, infant grandson Andrew Michael Wohlford, brother Merle Smiley, sister-in-law Mary Jo Smiley, infant nephew Gary Smiley, infant niece Sandra Smiley, niece Donna Smiley and her husband Howard Fish, and niece Susan Smiley.
Funeral Services will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, on Friday, March 25, 2022, from5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday from 12:00 noon until 7:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Wheeling Cemetery, Wheeling, Missouri.
