Dixie Lee Pence, age 88, a resident of Braymer, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2019, at NorthCare Hospice House, North Kansas City, Missouri.
Dixie was born on January 24, 1931, in Jamesport, Missouri, to Alvis "Short" and Grace (Dixon) Pliley. She graduated from Jamesport High School in 1949, and Caster's Beauty Academy in 1950. She operated a beauty shop in Gallatin until 1953. On December 24, 1952, she married Roger Pence. They moved to Braymer, Missouri, in 1953, and opened Dixie's Beauty Shop, where she worked for 65 years. She also did hair at the Golden Age Nursing Home, when it opened until she retired in 2017 for health reasons. Dixie was a member of the Braymer Methodist Church, Braymer, Missouri, where she was very active in United Methodist Women, and the Round Table Sunday School class. She was also a member of the Braymer Tweedie-Murray American Legion Post 117 Women's Auxiliary.
Survivors include one daughter, Candy Barth and husband Sam of Weatherby Lake, Missouri; one grandson, Aaron Calton and friend Cynthia; one granddaughter, Amber Calton and friend Jesse Tye; four great grandchildren, Ian and Hannah Cooper, Demi Calton, and Jordan Gillenwater; one brother, Jerry Pliley of Jamesport, Missouri; one cousin, Bob Dixon and wife Carolee of Lock Springs, Missouri; one nephew, Bart Pliley and wife Brenda of Jamesport, Missouri; one niece, Julie Levy and husband Rob of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; numerous great nieces and great nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roger; sister-in-law, Phyllis Pliley; and her best friend for 76 years, Mary Clevenger.
A memorial service will be held at the Braymer Methodist Church, Braymer, Missouri, on Monday, November 25, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. There is no scheduled visitation. Friends may call at the Lindley Pitts Funeral Home, Braymer, Missouri, on Sunday, November 24, 2019, from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Inurnment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Braymer, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the Braymer Methodist Church and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
