Darrell Marvin Rottmann Darrell Marvin Rottmann, 93, of Meadville, passed away April 20, 2017, surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren at Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe. Darrell was born April 9, 1924 to Oscar E. and Lizzie Jane (Sayers) Rottmann in Chula, Missouri. Darrell was a lifelong resident of the Meadville area and was a graduate of Meadville High School in 1941. He was a proud United States Navy veteran, having served in World War II at Okinawa, Japan on the USS Blackhawk and also at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He was a lifelong farmer and an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, playing cards and checkers, attending sporting events, as well as spending time on the farm with his herd of cattle. In younger years, he enjoyed playing softball and riding horses and always also enjoyed his time with his wife and family. Darrell was honorably discharged from the Navy on April 2, 1946. On May 5, 1946, he was united in marriage to Wilda Ann (Surber), who survives of the home, and they were married a wonderful 70 years. On October 20, 1949, they welcomed their first child, Carolyn Ann, and on August 4, 1952, welcomed their second daughter, Vickie Lynn. He was an active member of the Meadville community, having served on the Ruddy Foundation for the construction of the Meadville Community Center. He served as a member of the Meadville R-IV school board, a member of the American Legion, founder and president of the Meadville Saddle Club, a member of the Haseville Methodist Church, on the Meadville city board and the Clay township board, the Meadville Lions Club, a participant in both the Meadville Centennial and Sesquicentennial festivities as one of the Brothers of the Brush, among many others. Survivors include his beloved wife, Wilda, Meadville; daughters, Carolyn Dudley and Kenneth, Meadville; Vickie Dewey, Liberty, Missouri; four grandchildren, David Dudley and Brandy, Purdin, Craig Dewey and Katie, Kansas City, Cara Skillman and Devin, Liberty, and Kristin Dudley, Meadville; nine great-grandchildren Zane and Kellyn Dudley, McKenna, Macy, and Mallory Lambert, Avery and Logan Dewey, and Adalynn and Brynn Skillman; and several nieces and nephews, and other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Edith Maize, and his brothers Carl Rottmann, Maurice Rottmann, and J.W. Rottmann. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 24, 2017, at 1 p.m. at the Lindley Funeral Home Chillicothe, Missouri. A family visitation will be held on Sunday, April 23, 2017 from 4-6 p.m. at Lindley Funeral Home Chillicothe, Missouri. Burial will be at Botts Cemetery Meadville, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meadville R-IV School Library or the Botts Cemetery and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home P.O. Box 47 Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
