Darrell Eugene Davis, Jr. Darrell Eugene Davis, Jr., age 59, of Shawnee, Kansas, went to be with the Lord our Savior in Heaven on Friday, September 25, 2015. Darrell was born to Darrell Eugene and Thelma Faye (Basham) Davis on May 17, 1956. At an early age, he dedicated his life to Christ. Throughout high school he was involved in choir, band, football, basketball, track and summer league baseball. He graduated from Braymer C-4 in 1974 and continued his education at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. He belonged to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). Darrell played safety for the Bearcats and graduated in 1979. He was then signed as a free agent by the Dallas Cowboys and then was picked up by the Kansas City Chiefs. While trying out for a Canadian team, he injured his knee ending his football career. From there he worked in a couple of gyms and competed in bodybuilding events. Darrell was certified as a lay Speaker. For the past 26 years he has worked for Overnight/UPS Freight. Darrell was an avid Royals, Chiefs and Mizzou fan. He was a member of the Braymer United Methodist Church and attended Beth Haven Church in North Kansas City. Darrell is survived by his mother, Thelma Davis, of Braymer, sisters Debbie Rankin of Braymer and Diana Wilds (Ed) of Las Vegas, Nevada; nieces Kelly Smith (Ron) of Independence, Billie Sullivan (Rob) of Independence; April Wilds of Las Vegas, Nevada; nephews John Wilds (Christina) of Atlantic Beach, Florida and Casey Wilds of Bend, Oregon; eight great nephews and one great niece. He was preceded in death by his father, Darrell Eugene Davis, Sr. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, October 3, 2015, at 1:30 p.m. at the Braymer United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Friday, October 2, 2015, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Lindley Pitts Funeral Home, Braymer, Missouri. Burial will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery, Braymer, Missouri.
