Dale Eugene Sims, age 85, a resident of Avalon, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at his residence.
Dale was born the son of Oscar Logan and Lucille Inez (Hughes) Sims on July 17, 1936, in Lee's Summit, Missouri. He was a 1954 graduate of Lee's Summit High School. He served in the United States Army as a radar specialist from 1955 until 1957, during the Korean War. After the war, he worked for Missouri Public service as an apprentice lineman. Dale was united in marriage to Judy Sims on May 28, 1961. To this union, two children, Donald and Sarah, were born. He was then united in marriage to Sherry Duncan on June 4, 1989, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She survives of the home. On June 30, 1995, Dale retired from KCP&L, where he was working as an estimator at the time of his retirement. He was a member of the Sumner American Legion Post #856 for 36 years, the Chillicothe Elks Lodge #656 for 25 years, and the National Rifle Association for several years. Dale enjoyed pheasant hunting, turkey, deer, and quail hunting. In his pastime, Dale spent a lot of time with his uncles, Harold and Kenny Hughes, who always took him hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry Sims of the home; one son, Donald L. Sims and wife Heather of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one daughter, Sarah J. Osborne and husband Rob of Austin, Texas; one step son, Tommy Duncan and wife Christin of Marshall, Missouri; one step daughter, Marti Claud and husband Michael of Carrollton, Missouri; three grandchildren, Logan James Sims, Ryan Dale Sims, and Race Osborne; five step grandchildren, Kindall Duncan, Presley Duncan, Cooper Duncan, Gage Boggs, and Gavin Claud; one sister-in-law, Judith Sims of St. Simons Island, Georgia; and two brothers-in-law, Dennis Watson and wife Susan of Avalon, Missouri, and Robbie Watson of Avalon, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Wayne Sims; and one step grandchild, Thomas C.W. Duncan.
Funeral services will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Monday, November 1, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Monday, November 1, 2021, one hour prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Sunday, October 31, 2021, from 12 noon until 7:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Avalon Cemetery, Avalon, Missouri.
