Crystal "Fern" Penland
Crystal "Fern" Penland, age 75, a resident of Trenton, Missouri, was called Home to Our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, from Eastview Manor Care Center, Trenton, Missouri.
Crystal was born the daughter of John and Sara (Hays) Hatton on March 25, 1946, in St. Joseph, Missouri. She was united in Marriage to Frederick Penland in St. Joseph, Missouri. He survives of the home.
She was more than happy to be the Central Figure in the lives of her children, family, and friends. Anyone who knew them knew she was a star in their eyes, and that's all that mattered to her. She worked hard taking jobs from being a Cook spreading Cheer and great food for Residents and Staff in Long Term Care, as well as Jobs such as Construction, hanging insulation. She was a Jack of all trades. "Fern" loved Elvis. One of her many hobbies was collecting Elvis Memorabilia. Family and friends always knew a special gift would be anything Elvis, movies, clocks, anything of the King. She worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for her family. While "Fern's" family grieves her loss, they are choosing to remember "Fern" in a way that honors her spirit.
Survivors include her husband, Frederick Penland of Amazonia, Missouri; three sons, John Penland and wife Angela of Laredo, Missouri, Wayland Hovey and wife Kim of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Rusty Hovey of St. Joseph, Missouri; four daughters, Danyelle Kerns of Stewartsville, Missouri, Robin Crockett and husband Ricky of St. Joseph, Missouri, Ginger Hovey and Dave Radmer of Union Star, Missouri, and Sandra Mace and husband Rodney of St. Joseph, Missouri; twenty seven grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Danny Hovey; one son-in- law, Lionel Kerns; three granddaughters, Samantha Hovey, Latisha Crockett and Cheryl Sipes, whom she loved and missed dearly; two brothers, Randy Hatton, Gary Hatton; and one sister, Nora Bowen.
Cremation was held. No services are scheduled at this time. Memorial contributions may be made to the Crystal "Fern" Penland Memorial Fund and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601. Online condolences may be made at www.lindlefuneralhomes.com .
