Coleen Anita Stapleton Coleen Anita Stapleton, age 95, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, formerly of Independence, Missouri, passed away on Friday, August 7, 2015, at Morningside Center, Chillicothe, Missouri. Coleen was born the daughter of Walter and Mabel (Walz) O'Brien on July 27, 1920, in Mooresville, Missouri. In 1946 Coleen was united in marriage to Warren S. Stapleton in Kansas City, Missouri. He preceded her in death on November 20, 2004. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Betty Collins. Survivors include a niece, Karen (Joseph) Elkovich and three great-nieces of Connecticut; four first cousins, Norma Jean Eck of Sedalia, Missouri, Jerry Vadnais of Sunrise Beach, Missouri, Judy Rawie of Liberty, Missouri and Timothy H. Bosler of Mooresville, Missouri. Coleen was a graduate of the now Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri, in 1942. She was considered a "pioneer woman" in computers. She worked with computers when they were housed in a large room rather than on a small laptop. She enjoyed their weekend home at the Lake of the Ozarks. Warren would catch and clean the fish and she would cook them for family and friends. She also was involved with the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars auxillaries in the Kansas City area. She was a loyal fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals. A graveside service will be held at Utica Cemetery, Utica, Missouri, on Monday, August 17, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Sunday, August 16, 2015, from 12 noon until 5:00 p.m. The family wants to thank the staff at Morningside Center and St. Luke's Hospice for their concern and care for Coleen. Memorial contributions may be made to the Utica Cemetery or Wayside Waifs and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
