Charles Naason Greenwood

Charles Naason Greenwood, age 91, former resident of Breckenridge, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at his residence in Denver, Colorado. Charles, the son of Harold and Elenora (Will) Greenwood, was born on August 15, 1920 in Lock Springs, and graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1938. After high school, he attended the Chillicothe Business College then moved to St. Louis, where he worked as a recruiter for the Flying Tigers of the United States Navy. From 1942 until 1946, he was a Captain in the United States Marine Corps and served as a pilot in the Pacific Theater. After his return from the War, earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg. On August 13, 1950, he and Alma Rae Benney were married in Breckenridge, Missouri. They lived in Denver, Colorado, where he taught high school math and was the head of the Mathematics and Computer Science department for the Denver, Colorado public school system. While teaching in Colorado, he furthered his education at the University of Denver and earned his Master's Degree. Charles is survived by his wife Alma Rae of the home; one brother-in-law Joe Benney of Cherokee Village, Arkansas; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mary Nell Greenwood; three brothers, Bill, David and James Greenwood; and one nephew, Hal Greenwood. Funeral services will be held at the United Methodist Church in Breckenridge, Missouri on Sunday, October 16, 2011 at 2:00 pm. Visitation will be held at the Pitts Funeral Home in Breckenridge, Missouri on Saturday, October 15, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friends may call from 12 noon to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Rose Hill Cemetery, Breckenridge, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the Charles N. Greenwood College Scholarship Fund and may be left at Pitts Funeral Home, Breckenridge, Missouri or mailed to Pitts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri, 64601.
