Charles “Handlebar” Campbell, Jr
Charles “Handlebar” Campbell, Jr, age 83, a resident of Chula, Missouri, passed away Friday, April 5, 2024, at Hedrick Medical Center, Chillicothe, Missouri.
Charley was born the son of Charles and Ruth Elizabeth (Coulter) Campbell on October 21, 1940, in East Moline, Illinois. He graduated from Manual High School and attended Trade School in Kansas City, Missouri. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1963 through 1965, where he was discharged from Ft. Riley, Kansas. Upon his return home he began working at Donaldsons in Chillicothe, Missouri, where he retired with over 37 years of service. He was united in marriage to Ann Roberts on February 4, 1967. They shared 57 years of marriage. She survives of the home. They raised livestock and farmed the duration.
Charley was a member of the First Baptist Church, Chillicothe, Missouri. He was also a Scout Master, he was on the Cream Ridge Township Board, a Chula Community Center Board member, Chula Fire Board member and he was a Peppy Promenader. He enjoyed spending time with his kids, his grandkids and his great grandkids. Horseback riding, camping, bird watching, square dancing, drawing, mowing, auctioneering and fixing any and all things related to his kids and grandkids were all enjoyable hobbies of his. He always took the time to help others, even if it meant the crops had to wait. He will definitely be missed by those who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Ann; two sons Clint Campbell and wife, Kathy, of Chula, Missouri and Austin Campbell of Chula, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Jordan Fries and husband, Jeffrey of Linneus, Missouri, Erin Locke and husband, Logan, of Centralia, Missouri, McCormick Campbell and wife, Hollie, of Chula, Missouri, Wade Campbell and wife, Molly, of Chula, Missouri, Hesston Campbell and fiancé, Josie Reeter, of Chula, Missouri, Charlee Ann Campbell of Chula, Missouri and Levi Campbell of Chula, Missouri; and five great grandchildren, Addison, Brylee, Brynn, Lainey, Holt, and one on the way; two sisters, Rose June Sample and Susie Proffitt, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jarret Campbell; and one sister, Faye Sizemore.
Graveside services will be held at the May Cemetery, Chula, Missouri, on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Monday, April 8, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Monday, April 8, 2024 from 12:00 noon until 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the May Cemetery and/or Livingston County R-III (Chula School) and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, PO Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri, 64601.
