Charles E. Braden, 95, Bogard, Mo., formerly of Independence, Mo., died May 8, 2010, at Bristol Manor Care Center in Carrollton, Mo. Charlie was born March 18, 1915, in Braymer, Mo., to Herbert and Annie Lola Wilson Braden. He graduated from William Chrisman High School in Independence in 1933, and married Virginia H. McBride on Sept. 7, 1935. He worked for Armco Steel for 40 years, retiring as superintendent of labor relations. He also was a founder and treasurer of the Steelworkers Federal Credit Union, now United Consumers Credit Union. Upon retirement in 1976, Charlie took over the Braden family farm at Bogard, a Missouri Century Farm that has been in the family since 1844. He was a Mason and a Shriner. Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; a son, Richard; a brother, James Ernest; and a sister, Jewel Fern. He is survived by a son, John C. Braden, and his wife, Elizabeth, of Lake Tapawingo, Mo.; daughter-in-law Patricia Braden of Renton, Wash.; four granddaughters: Annette O'Neal, Valencia, Calif.; Melanie Corey, Monroe, Wash.; Jessica Poteet, Houston, Texas; and Marianne Braden, Lake Tapawingo, Mo., and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Tina, Mo., at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 13, 2010, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. at the Lindley Funeral Home, Tina, Mo. Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo. Burial will be in the Braden Cemetery, Coloma, Mo.
