Charles Beardsley Benedict Charles Beardsley Benedict, age 89, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2012, at his residence. Charles was born the son of Frank and Margaret (Beardsley) Benedict on February 14, 1923, in Wilton, Connecticut. In 1948, he graduated from William Jewell College. While attending college, he was a football letterman. On November 27, 1948, Charles was united in marriage to Harriett Dickinson in Kansas City, Missouri. Charles served in the U.S. Navy Air Corps from 1943 until 1945. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, flying, cooking, golfing, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His professional career was spent in insurance sales and land development. Charles is survived by his wife Harriett Benedict of the home; two sons, Charles Benedict and wife Nancy of Mt. Jackson, Virginia, and Timothy Benedict of Hollywood, Florida; one daughter, Janet Barnhart and husband Tom of Chillicothe, Missouri; five grandchildren, Adam and Corri Barnhart of Lee's Summit, Missouri, Katherine Barnhart of Kansas City, Missouri, Michael Benedict of Harrisonburg, Virginia, Patrick Benedict of Arlington, Virginia, and Jennifer Benedict of Richmond, Virginia; three great-grandchildren, Ella and Hudson Barnhart of Lee's Summit, Missouri, and Lily Basinger of Kansas City, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Katherine Benedict; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Geary Simpson and Francis and Richard Graham; one brother and sister-in-law Claire and Marjorie Benedict; two brothers-in-law, Bert Dickinson and Gary Dickinson. A Memorial Service will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Saturday, March 31, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. There is no scheduled family visitation. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, March 30, 2012, from 12 noon until 9:00 p.m. Inurnment will be held in the Van Horn Cemetery, Tina, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jewell Fund of William Jewell College or to Chillicothe's Festival of Lights and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O.
