Carla Alice Warren, age 87, a resident of Wheeling, Missouri, passed away Friday, August 12, 2011, in Chillicothe, Missouri. Carla was born in Brookfield, Missouri, on December 9, 1923, the daughter of Walter Gordon and Iola Lee (Posey) Breeden. She was a 1942 graduate of Chillicothe High School. After graduation she worked for Cooley Gravel Company before going to Washington, D.C., to work for the U.S. Housing Authority. On February 11, 1945, she married Harold Ray Warren in Chillicothe, Missouri. She was a member of the Wheeling United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and played piano. Carla was very active in the United Methodist Women's Organization. After the Wheeling United Methodist Church closed, she attended the Wheeling Christian Church. She was active in many things, including being a leader in 4-H, Farmerettes Extension Club, Wheeling Garden Club, and the Wheeling PTA. She assisted with multiple annual Wheeling Homecoming celebrations and served as the secretary of the Wheeling Cemetery Association for many years. She was inducted as an honorary member of the Young Farmer's Wives in 1972. Carla loved all the duties and joys of being a farmer's wife: family manager, bookkeeper, calf feeder, threshing crew cook, vegetable canner, child chauffer, and truck driver. She enjoyed playing the piano and singing with Harold and performing special music for church and community events. Carla and Harold did fundraising and were the driving force' behind creating the Wheeling United Methodist Church Memorial at the Wheeling Cemetery Survivors include her husband Harold of the home; children Larry Warren and wife Janet Sue (Cox) of Chillicothe, Missouri, Linda Smith and husband Ray of Wheeling, Missouri, Mary Lou Warren of St. Joseph, and Robert "Bob" Warren of Jefferson City, Missouri; brothers William Morris Breeden and wife Shirley (Bowman) of Chillicothe, Missouri, and Walter Terrell Breeden of Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandchildren John Warren of Festus, Missouri, David Warren of Lakeland, Georgia, Mark Warren of Chillicothe, Missouri, Adam Warren of Chillicothe, Missouri, Christopher Warren of Belton, Missouri, and Jessica (Warren) Johnston of St. Joseph, Missouri; step grandsons Jason Smith of Kansas City, Kansas, and Joshua Smith of Lawrence, Kansas; 8 great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law Pat (Pyrtle) Breeden. Funeral services will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Wednesday, August 17, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. A family visitation will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Tuesday, August 16, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friends may call Lindley Funeral Home on Tuesday from 12:00 noon until 9:00 p.m. Burial will be held in Wheeling Cemetery, Wheeling, Missouri.
